25 Feb 2007 : *** EWES BEAT ESTONIA ***
Ewhurst CC have just returned from a triumphant visit to Tallinn, Estonia where they defeated the Estonian national team by 12 runs.
The team comprising of James Cation, Jez Taylor, Jim Wakefied, Phil Balchin, Keith Greenaway, Nailesh Patel and Duncan Greenaway struggled in the first innings and made only 48 all out. Estonia then replied reaching 64 all out from their allotted ten overs.
Ewhurst then got to grips with the -18C conditions and got to 79 for 2, including a 50 partnership between Cation and Taylor. This left Estonia requiring 64 to win.
Estonias reply got off to a bad start with Wakefield taking a wicket off the second ball. Wickets continued to tumble at regular intervals preventing Estonia from getting close to the required run rate.
Estonia struggled to 46 for 5 with 1 over remaining but a tight final over from Taylor left Estonia 13 runs short of Ewhurst total.
The presentation of the trophy took place later that night at Peppersack Restaurant in Tallinn Old Town.
The tour was a great success for all involved.
