ECC Newsletter

April 2022

Welcome to our latest Ewhurst Cricket Club (ECC) newsletter at a busy time as we prepare for the 2022 season. Its looking like a big, uninterrupted season, with limited restrictions this year which we are all looking forward to.

Our first league game will be on 7th May and it will be a first home game. A full Saturday league fixture list is included overleaf so you know when we are playing at home.

There will be more cricket at our ground this year as we will be helping out Old Emanuel Cricket Club, based in New Malden. Their home ground was not available this year and in order for their club to continue to play cricket we have offered them our ground on the Saturdays that we will be playing away. Not only are we helping out a fellow club but there will also be benefits to our club financially, and in the form of additional players for our side when needed, additional equipment and extra help to maintain the ground.

We have fully briefed the Old Emanuel Cricket Club of the requirements of using our ground and club house, and in particular parking arrangements at the ground. As a result we do not anticipate any problems but please get in contact with us if you experience any inconvenience and we will ensure we rectify it.

We will also try to play as many Sunday games as possible but these will be more ad hoc depending on player and opposition availability. We will also be having our usual junior Colts coaching / games on Friday evenings.

A big thank you goes out to all who assisted the club during 2021. We couldn’t do without our volunteers who give up their time to manage the club through the committee, look after the clubhouse, run the bar and coach our up and coming cricket stars of the future! We are always after more help as even though we are only a small club there is still so much to do. So please let us know if you are able to help in any way.

The main works to the club over the winter involved subsidence repair work to the club house at a considerable cost to the club. This was required as the foundations of several sections of the building were settling resulting in significant internal and external wall cracking and movement and there was a threat that the ceiling beams could fall in.

We propose to hold the Buzzumble sale at the ground again this year given its success last year. It is likely to be on a Sunday afternoon in late June / early July, however we will let everyone know once the date has been confirmed. We will not have a specific donation collection day this year, however if you have some items that you would like to donate please get in contact and we will arrange for them to be collected. We also plan to hold our car boot sale as usual on the August Bank Holiday Monday at the ground.

As the season should be relatively unrestricted this year the usual £25 per household / family club membership fee will apply. This can be paid directly into the ECC account (sort code - 60 06 19, Acct No. – 61979171) or cheques to Ewhurst Cricket Club to 7 Coneyhurst Cottages, Coneyhurst Lane, Ewhurst, GU6 7PL.

We are all looking forward to a great season of cricket this year and we hope to see you down at the ground at some point. If you have any questions regarding any of the above please speak to a member of the committee, send an email to our club email address (ewhurstcc@btinternet.com), or contact Tom Wanner on the below.
